The Wyoming Department of Health has expanded their partnership with incentaHEALTH to add a blood pressure cuff to the HEALTHspot kiosk located at the White Mountain Library in Rock Springs (2935 Sweetwater Dr, Rock Springs, WY 82901). Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Wyoming and 30% of Wyoming adults have been told by doctors they have high blood pressure (Wyoming BRFSS, 2014). The only way to know if you have high blood pressure or hypertension is to have your blood pressure tested. Residents in the community now have access to testing their blood pressure at the HEALTHspot kiosk located in White Mountain Library Health Corner. Community members do not need to be enrolled in the #PreventDiabetes program to use the blood pressure cuff. Upon completion of the blood pressure test each participant receives a print out of their results.
Tips for an accurate blood pressure test:
- Don’t drink caffeinated beverage or smoke during the 30 minutes before the test
- Sit quietly for five minutes before the test begins
- The cuff should be placed on bare skin, not over a shirt.
- Don’t talk during the measurement.
