September is National Yoga Month! We want to take this opportunity to draw awareness to the benefits of yoga.
Yoga is great way to improve overall health! Let’s see how –
Yoga improves strength, balance, and flexibility:
A yoga practice consists of a pattern of movements. These movements are designed to stretch and elongate the muscles. By holding these poses, your body develops strength.
Yoga can be used to treat back pain:
The spine is at the core of everything that we do! It’s no wonder that back pain can often be debilitating. The CDC reports that 25% of adults suffer from lower back pain. The good news, that yoga can help! The American Collage of Physicians recommends yoga as a first-line treatment for chronic low back pain.
Yoga benefits heart health:
Many types of yoga can increase heart rate – making it a great cardiovascular option! A consistent yoga practice may also reduce stress, weight, and blood pressure – all of which contribute to a healthy heart!
Yoga improves sleep:
If you struggle with sleep, give some pre-bedtime yoga a shot. The gentle movements, and deep breathing can ease the body, preparing it for a great night’s sleep!
Yoga can improve mood and increase energy:
Who doesn’t want to be in a better mood, with more energy? Yoga can give you both! Deep breathing and movement releases endorphins. Endorphins, also known as the “feel good” hormone, put us into a better mood and increase energy.
If yoga is not already a part of your wellness routine, give it a shot! Check out a local yoga studio, class at your gym, or simply pull up a beginners yoga YouTube!
