The best gift you can give – is a happy YOU!

Tis’ the season to be overwhelmed and stressed out.

Let’s cut the Grinch a break– he was only acting out on the feelings we ALL have this time of year!

The primary source of holiday stress is the expectation to be jolly. The American Psychological Association (APA) determined that the top holiday stressors include lack of time, financial concern, gift-giving pressure, family get-togethers, travel and taking time off work.

Simply put, we change our routines this time of year. We spend more money, eat more food, and commit more time to social events.

What if you sat back and enjoyed this time of year for what it really is – time to be with family and celebrate another year coming to a close?

Here are some ideas:

Take some ‘me-time’

It’s the season for giving and it’s okay to give a little something to yourself!

Take time to do whatever makes you happy. Watch a movie, take a bath, go on a coffee date with yourself, or sit down to read that book that’s been sitting on your bedside table all year long.

Meditate

Slow down, for goodness’ sake!

As an incentaHEALTH member you have access to a library of mindful meditations. It only takes 10 minutes to calm the mind and body. This is a great way to balance the hustle and bustle of the season.

Don’t overextend yourself

Nobody is going to care if you pick up a dozen pre-made cookies instead of baking them yourself and it’s okay to not show up to everything you’re invited to.

Allow yourself to say no, you’ll be a happier version of yourself for the important things you will say yes to.

Prepare

You don’t have to throw out your health goals during this time. One great way to stay on track is to be prepared!

Prepare yourself mentally for what is to come. Make a promise to yourself to only splurge as much as you feel comfortable.

Being prepared with healthy meals to share with family and friends is another great way to stay on track. This ensures that you will have something to eat and gives others the opportunity to try something new!

Exercise

Exercise reduces stress by increasing feel-good hormones and helps you burn off those extra calories you may be consuming.

Get out and go for a walk, it’s a great way to see your neighbor’s Christmas lights! Or stay home and participate in an incentaHEALTH workout with Coach Kenna.

This time is meant to be enjoyed, make that your priority this holiday season.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!
