Health Links™, a research-to-practice program within the Center for Health, Work & Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health, is partnering with digital health company incentaHEALTH to build a digital tool to increase diabetes risk awareness for employers. The goal is to increase availability and accessibility to Diabetes Prevention Programs to employees through employer sponsorship.
In collaboration with Health Links, incentaHEALTH will develop a sixty-second online risk test for individuals to determine their risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. Deidentified data collected through the risk test will be shared with employers to illustrate the need for and value of preventive programs like the National Diabetes Program.
Prediabetes is a growing issue in America; more than 1 out of 3 adults has prediabetes, and 90% don’t know they have it. Diabetes is also one the costliest diseases in America with $1 out of every $4 US health care costs being spent on caring for people with the disease. Lifestyle interventions like a National Diabetes Prevention Program can help reduce the risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, which in turn will help decrease health care costs.
Health Links works with over 150 employers to promote workplace health and safety with evidence-based strategies. Funding secured through the Colorado Department of Health and Environment is being utilized for this project.
